PADI Self Reliant (Solo) Diver Course

From the first day that you start your PADI Open Water Diver Course, your instructor points out the importance of the buddy system. Divers should never dive alone, sometimes an experienced diver may want or need to dive without a partner.

The PADI Self Reliant Diver Course introduces you to the basic concepts of self sufficiency and redundancy underwater.

During this course you will discover the special considerations and planning that are needed to dive safely without a buddy backup.

If you want to start the PADI Self Reliant Diver Course, you must be at least 18 years old and be the owner of the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate with a minimum of 100 logged dives.

The course takes two days to complete and consists of a session of theory and 4 open water dives.

The PADI Self Reliant Diver Course covers when diving alone may be applicable and the need to prepare for diving alone in those situations. Including dive planning, life support system readiness, adaptive training, equipment and responsibility. This course is an introduction to self reliant diving which helps student divers develop skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to rely on themselves first, whether or not they are diving with a partner. The course covers the value and application of the buddy system, furthermore the philosophy of and motivation for diving without a partner, the potential risks of diving alone and how to manage those risks. The course also goes into the value of equipment redundancy, what back-up equipment is needed and dive planning and gas management. 

Your instructor will teach you everything you need to know about self rescue. 

Even that this is a course that teaches you how to dive alone safely, your instructor will still point out the value and application of the buddy system. The philosophy and motivation of diving without a partner will be detailed.

Develop your skills of planning in carrying out dives without a partner when necessary and sharpen your skills of diving self reliance, making you a stronger partner in a dive team.
