PADI Sidemount Diver Course

PADI Sidemount Diver Course

Duration: 2 days

The PADI Sidemount Diver Course actually finds it roots in cave diving and is one of PADI’s newest course that is gaining in popularity very fast. The Sidemount configuration comes from the technical diving world, but for an obvious reason it found its way to the recreational diving world.

A Sidemount configuration means that your tanks are alongside the diver instead of carrying it on the back. This configuration offers more flexibility and better streamlining options. Plus you don’t have to walk with heavy tanks on your back, you just get into the water, clip the tanks on your harness and go for a dive.

Everyone who wants to participate in the PADI Sidemount Diver Course must be 15 years or older and also have completed successfully the PADI Open Water Diver Course.

The duration of this course is 2 days and is divided in two parts, the knowledge development and 4 open water dives.

During the PADI Sidemount Diver Course you will learn how to adjust and assemble your harness, regulators and tanks. You will learn to get the right trim by swapping regulators and adjust for proper weighting so you have both of your tanks properly balanced in water. Your instructor will teach you techniques to move more freely with less strain on your back. He will also show you how to respond to out of air scenarios with your long hose, as well as how to respond to free flow and shut down regulators.

This course also covers gas matching and gas management for independent tanks. You will get an overview of all physiological considerations of using the Sidemount configuration. You will also learn about the problems that may occur when diving with a Sidemount configuration and how to solve them. And you will have the ability to monitor all your equipment because it is in front of you.

The PADI Sidemount Diver Course also count towards your Master Scuba Diver rating and also gives you credit to your Advanced Open Water Diver certificate.

For any diver considering to undertake cave and wreck diving, we recommend to follow the PADI Sidemount Diver Course.
